Directions & Troubleshooting


The U.S. Army Field Band provides three ways to hear our performing groups. Army Bandstand, an internet radio service provided in conjunction with Soldiers Radio and Telelvision; Broadcast on Demand, rebroadcasts of live performances; and Downloads, MP4 music files that can be legally downloaded to your PC.

Army Bandstand
  • Select a feed from the list to listen with your default mp3 player such as ITunes, WinAmp, or RealPlayer. Some versions of Windows Media Player may not work properly.

Broadcast on Demand
  • Click on the appropriate concert to open that concert's program list.
  • Once open, choose from the first half or second half of the concert
  • Click on the 'Click to Play' icon and the computer will do the rest.
  • You must have QuickTime Version 6 to play these files.

Downloads
  • Choose from the list of performing groups, and select a High or Low data rate file to listen to. (High is for connections such as cable or DSL and Low is for dial-up modem)
  • To download to disk;
    Macintosh: Click on link and hold. Select 'Download Link To Disk'
    Windows: Right click on link. Select 'Save Target As..'
  • You must have QuickTime Version 6 to play these files.

Frequently asked questions
If for any reason after downloading or attempting to connect to a stream, the file does not play or you are experiencing other anomolies, we have listed a few FAQ's to try and resolve these issues.

  1. When I click on the player icon, QuickTime opens but nothing happens.
    QuickTime version 6 or higher is required to listen to streams and broadcasts.

  2. Why does the audio stutter during playback?
    Your connection speed in the QuickTime control panel may be set to high. Open the control panel for QuickTime (see below) and select the connection speed which is supported by your hardware.

    Macintosh

    Windows

    • For Macintosh users, open the QuickTime panel in the system preferences and confirm that your connection speed is selected in the pull-down menu.

  3. After downloading QuickTime 6, there is still no playback.
    Check to see that there are audio playing capabilities on your computer.

  4. Will Army Bandstand or Broadcast on Demand work with QuickTime 5.0?
    No, QuickTime 6 is required. This is a free download.

  5. What are the system requirements for QuickTime 6?

    Macintosh

    Windows

    • A 400 MHz PowerPC G3 or faster
    • At least 128MB of RAM
    • Mac OS 8.6 or higher
    • A Pentium processor-based PC or compatible computer
    • At least 128MB of RAM
    • Windows 98/Me/2000/XP

  6. How do I get help for QuickTime once it's installed?
    Open your QuickTime application and select QuickTime help from the Help menu; or visit www.apple.com/support , click and hold the pop-up menu that reads "Choose a Product" and select QuickTime.

  7. How do I get QuickTime 6?
    Visit www.apple.com/quicktime/download/, select your operating system, press the "Download QuickTime" button and QuickTime will automatically take you through the installation process.
