General Devers quotation

In 1946, Lieutenant General Jacob Devers charged Chief Warrant Officer Chester Whiting to create a band that would serve as liaison between the Army and the American people. Seven decades later and thousands of miles in-between, it's easy to see how far The U.S. Army Field Band has come.

General Devers' mandate was inspired by USO shows and popular groups like the First Combat Infantry Band that helped focus the will of the American people behind their Army. Today, the Army Field Band's four performing components and chamber groups reach diverse audiences and offer music in practically every style. Whether it's a night of classic masterworks by the Concert Band & Soldiers' Chorus, blazing hot jazz by the Jazz Ambassadors, or a bold mix of current chart toppers and classic rock favorites by Six-String Soldiers, the Army Field Band entertains crowds of every age.

In its 70th year, the members of The U.S. Army Field Band would like to thank their many fans for their overwhelming support, and for keeping us on the road as the premier touring musical organization of the United States Army. It has been a privilege to represent our fellow Soldiers and to honor our nation's veterans for 70 years, and we look forward to the next 70.
