PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE COMPLETING THE APPLICATION MATERIALS.
- Age/Location: Contestants must be in grades 9-12. Applications are being accepted from Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Vermont, and Washington DC.
- Repertoire: Contestants must prepare 1 selection from the required repertoire list. The selected solo will be used for the preliminary and final rounds, as well as the solo performance with The U.S. Army Field Band if selected. (See Required Repertoire list for individual instrument details.)
- Accompanist: We strongly recommend that CDs/tapes submitted for the preliminary round include piano accompaniment. Contestants reaching the final round will have the choice of using an accompanist from The U.S. Army Field Band or arrange for their own accompanist.
- Application and CD/Tape Deadline: Applications and CDs/Tapes must be received on or before Friday, January 9, 2009. Applications are being accepted from Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Vermont, and Washington DC. - Final Audition Date: Selected finalists will travel to Fort Meade, MD on Saturday, February 14, 2009 for the final round of the competition. Travel expenses paid by The U.S. Army Field Band. Finalists will perform with an accompanist for a panel of judges.
- Performance Date: The winner will be invited to perform as soloist with The U.S. Army Field Band at the MENC Eastern Division Conference in Providence, RI on Saturday, March 14, 2009. Rehearsals for this performance are Friday, March 13, 2009.
