THE SOLDIERS’ CHORUS
is the mixed choral ensemble of The United States Army Field Band. The Soldiers’ Chorus travels with The Army Field Band’s Concert Band performing nationally and internationally as directed by the Department of the Army. Formal public concerts, school assemblies, clinics, music festivals, guest performances with major orchestras, and radio and television appearances are all part of the annual schedule of the chorus.

The most competitive candidates will demonstrate authentic communication skills in a pop or other commercial idiom, and the ability to sing in a variety of styles in an ensemble.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional performance level
  • Demonstrate professional level stage and camera presence
  • Ability to communicate a story through music
  • Adeptness at pop-rock contemporary
  • Great harmonizing capabilities within a choral ensemble
  • Sight singing abilities
  • Ability to meet Army height/weight standards prior to live audition, and maintain a physically fit appearance
  • Must be 17-34 years of age
  • U.S. citizen or qualified resident

SALARY:

  • $60,000-$67,000 (Army rank of Staff Sergeant)

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Perform in the Soldiers’ Chorus of The United States Army Field Band
  • Tour 100-120 days per year in the U.S. and abroad
  • Work with Educational Outreach Program in schools across the nation
  • Perform as needed in small ensembles
  • Position requires a minimum 4-year enlistment—the candidate will be informed of acceptance prior to enlistment
  • Other duties as required in service to the organization

AUDITION PROCESS:
Please submit a recent resume and your recordings by July 20, 2020. (MUST BE RECEIVED BY THIS DATE).
CANDIDATES SHOULD INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

  1. Recent resumé with physical address, phone, and email in PDF format, as well as a recent photo
  2. Audio files should be recorded at a high sampling rate and saved in a format with minimum compression, preferably MP3. Save each excerpt as a separate file. Upload high quality audio files to a folder on Google Drive or Dropbox and share the link in your application with usarmyfieldbandauditions@mail.mil.
  3. Two selections demonstrating commercial styles, to be selected from the Billboard Hot 100, R&B/Hip-Hop, Country, Latin, Rock or Pop (minimum of twenty weeks’ time on the charts).
  4. An a cappella performance of the National Anthem in one of the following keys:
    • Alto: Any Key
    • Tenor: Eb
  5. Candidates may also submit one selection either from musical theatre OR an art song.


Note: Candidates’ resumes should indicate any specific skills they would like to highlight: choral conducting, dance experience, IT expertise, etc.

Applicants selected from screening of recordings will be invited for a personal interview and audition. Travel expenses will be paid by the United States Army. Military personnel must be eligible for permanent change of station and must submit an “Intent to Release” memo from their unit Commander. Prior service personnel should consult with their local Army recruiter concerning eligibility.
