LTC Domingos Robinson currently serves as the Commander of The United States Army Field Band. Prior to this assignment, LTC Robinson served as Deputy Commander of The United States Army Field Band; Commander of the Eighth United States Army Band stationed in South Korea; Deputy Commandant, Director of Training, and Commander of The U.S. Army School of Music; Army Music Liaison Officer for U.S. Army Central Command in Kuwait; Commander of the Army Ground Forces Band in Atlanta, Georgia; The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own” in Washington, DC, and The U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command Band in Hampton Roads, Virginia.

 

LTC Robinson’s ensembles have performed for significant events throughout the United States and Asia, serving as a key communications tool for the Senior Mission Commander while providing music in support of our Allied Partners. During his four years in Washington, LTC Robinson’s ensembles participated in such events as the 44th Presidential Inauguration, the dedication of the National World War II Memorial, the State Funerals of President Ronald Reagan and President Gerald Ford, the nationally televised “Christmas in Washington,” the Kennedy Center Honors, and “A Capitol Fourth,” as well as performances with the National Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and Akron Symphony Orchestra.

 

LTC Robinson holds a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Hartwick College and a Master of Music in Conducting from the New England Conservatory of Music, where he was a student of Frank Battisti. LTC Robinson is a member of the Recording Academy, the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and the Adjutant General Corps Regimental Association.

CSM Daniel Brimhall enlisted in The U.S. Army Field Band in 2004. Prior to assuming the mantle of the unit's most senior Non-Commissioned Officer, CSM Brimhall served in several critical positions, including Support Group Leader, Information Management Officer, interim Administrator for Army Bands Online, Section Leader, Small Group Team Leader, and as an oboist in the Concert Band

 

CSM Brimhall managed the unit’s accession of 34 Soldiers and supervised Human Resources during the implementation of the Integrated Personnel and Pay System – Army. He supported the Army Field Band's information and technology portfolio and the Army Bands knowledge management platform during major migrations to cloud environments. Keeping the mission first, CSM Brimhall has connected with Americans at hundreds of public engagements across 49 states over his more than 20 year long career as both a musician and as a senior NCO.

 

Growing up in rural Montana, CSM Brimhall began musical training at an early age in Sunburst, Montana, and Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. CSM Brimhall holds a Master of Music degree from Yale University and a Bachelor of Music degree from the Hartt School of The University of Hartford.
 

Bartel, Randy
Lt. Col. Randy Bartel
Deputy Commander

States Army Field Band in October 2025. A native of Marshall, Missouri, he began his military career in 1996 with the United States Marine Corps, serving six years on trumpet with the Quantico Marine Corps Band in Quantico, Virginia. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Central Methodist University and a Master of Music in Wind Band Conducting from the University of Missouri. Before entering active Army service, he taught for four years as a public school band director in Missouri.

 

Over nearly three decades of uniformed service, Lieutenant Colonel Bartel has led and performed across the globe including a deployment to Iraq in 2009. Prior to his current assignment, he served as Deputy Commander of The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own,” directing performances for seven U.S. Presidents, including the 57th and 60th Presidential Inaugurations and the State Funeral for former President Jimmy Carter. His leadership has been showcased at the White House, U.S. Capitol, Pentagon, and Arlington National Cemetery, as well as at numerous national ceremonies and televised events such as the National Memorial Day Concert and A Capitol Fourth. He has appeared in performance with renowned artists including composer John Williams, the Boston Pops, and the National Symphony Orchestra.
 

As Commander of the United States Army Europe and Africa Band and Chorus, headquartered in Sembach, Germany, Lieutenant Colonel Bartel was responsible for more than 700 public performances across 45 nations. Under his command, the unit supported the 75th and 78th anniversaries of D-Day in Normandy, France, and fostered enduring international relationships through joint performances with 26 allied and partner military bands across two continents.

 

His earlier assignments include Commander of the United States Army Training and Doctrine Command Band at Joint Base Langley–Eustis, Virginia; Associate Bandmaster of The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own”; Band Programs Officer, United States Forces–Iraq; Staff Bands Officer, U.S. Army Forces Command; and Executive Officer and Associate Conductor of the Army Ground Forces Band.
 

Lieutenant Colonel Bartel received his commission through Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia, where he was named a Distinguished Military Graduate in 2005. He was the honor graduate and recipient of the President Benjamin Harrison Medal at the Adjutant General Officer Basic Course, and is a graduate of the Captain’s Career Course at the U.S. Army School of Music and the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

 

His military decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (fifth award), Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge (Gold), and the Norwegian Military March Medal (Bronze).

Smalls, Jac'kel

Captain Jac’kel Smalls arrived at The United States Army Field Band in September 2025 as the Officer in Charge of the Soldiers’ Chorus. A native of Goose Creek, South Carolina, CPT Smalls holds a Master of Business Administration from Liberty University, and a Bachelor of Music Education from Winthrop University. 

 

CPT Smalls has served the Army across a broad range of assignments since beginning his career in 2007 as a euphonium player. His enlisted assignments include the 2nd Infantry Division Band in Uijeongbu, South Korea; the 392nd Army Band at Fort Lee, Virginia; the 56th Army Band at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington; and the 1st Armored Division Band in El Paso, Texas. While serving with the 1st Armored Division Band, he was selected for Bandmaster training and appointed as a Warrant Officer in 2014. As a Chief Warrant Officer, he commanded the 77th Army Band at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, from 2014 to 2016, leading the ensemble in hundreds of performances for the Fort Sill community and throughout the Midwest. 

 

From 2016 to 2019, Captain Smalls served with the United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own” as Associate Bandmaster and Director of both the U.S. Army Blues and U.S. Army Band Downrange. He led these premier ensembles in performances at the 2018 Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, the Embassy of France in Washington, D.C., the 2018 National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, and the National Museum of African American History and Culture. His leadership has included collaborations with the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra and numerous high-profile events across the National Capital Region. As Associate Bandmaster, he conducted concerts and ceremonies at the White House, the Pentagon, Arlington National Cemetery, and other significant national events with the U.S. Army Ceremonial Band and the U.S. Army Concert Band. 

 

In 2017, he was attached to the Joint Task Force–National Capital Region in support of all military ceremonial operations during the 58th Presidential Inauguration. While serving at “Pershing’s Own”, he was selected to become a commissioned Officer and attended Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, GA, receiving his commission as a Second Lieutenant. 

 

From 2019 to 2022, CPT Smalls served as the Executive Officer and Instructor at the U.S. Army School of Music in Virginia Beach, Virginia. From 2022 to 2025, he served with the United States Army Europe and Africa Band and Chorus (USAREURAF) as the Officer in Charge of the USAREUR-AF Soldiers’ Chorus, leading the ensemble in hundreds of performances across Europe and Africa. Notable appearances included joint performances with allied and partner nations such as Kosovo, Greece, North Macedonia, and Germany. 

 

CPT Smalls holds the distinction of being the only currently serving commissioned officer to have served in active-duty Army Bands as a Noncommissioned Officer, Warrant Officer, and Commissioned Officer. His military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (third award), Army Commendation Medal (fourth award), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (fourth award), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal (second award), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (second award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (second award), the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge (Silver), the Norwegian Foot March Badge (Bronze), and the Basic Instructor Badge. CPT Smalls is married to Kim Smalls and has three sons: Alexander, Jacob, and Eli. 

Dorgan, Brian

CW2 Brian Dorgan hails from Carver, Massachusetts. He enlisted in the Army in 2009 and completed Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, SC, followed by Advanced Individual Training at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek – Fort Story in Norfolk, Virginia where he was certified as an Army Musician (MOS 42R) on trombone. His assignments as an enlisted Soldier include the 113th Army Band, Fort Knox, KY; The United States Army Training and Doctrine Command Band, Fort Eustis, VA; the 1st Armored Division Band, El Paso, TX, where he deployed to Iraq in 2017 in support of Operation Inherent Resolve; and America’s First Corps Band, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA.  In 2020 he was selected as a Warrant Officer Candidate, and in 2021 was certified as an Army Bandmaster. CW2 Dorgan has served as bandmaster and commander of the 399th Army Band, Maneuver Support Center of Excellence, Fort Leonard Wood, MO (2021-2023), and the 1st Infantry Division Band, Fort Riley, KS (2023-2025).  

 
CW2 Dorgan earned both his Master of Music and Bachelor of Music degrees from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. His military education includes the Warrant Officer Advanced Course, Company Commander First Sergeant Course, Warrant Officer Basic Course, Warrant Officer Candidate School, the Army Musician Senior Leaders Course, the Army Musician Advanced Leaders Course, and the Basic Leaders Course. His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (2), the Army Commendation Medal (6), the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal (7), the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, the Army Superior Unit Award (2), the Army Good Conduct Medal (4), the National Defense Service Medal, the Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the NCO Professional Development Ribbon (3), the Army Service Ribbon, and the German Armed Forces Badge for Military Proficiency in Gold. 


CW2 Dorgan currently resides in Bowie, MD with his wife, Jessica, of 14 years, and their two dogs, Monty and Daisy.
