A native of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Sergeant First Class Kristin M. Fleig earned a Bachelor of Music degree in 2004, studying trumpet with David Hickman at Arizona State University. Prior to this, she and her triplet sisters attended Interlochen Arts Academy. Following college graduation, SFC Fleig performed in a professional trumpet trio with her sisters, appearing with major orchestras and bands across the United States and Europe, including the Saint Louis Symphony, John Philip Sousa Band, United States Air Force Band of the West, and the South Dakota Symphony. The trio was featured at leading conferences such as the International Trumpet Guild and International Women’s Brass Conference, presented nationwide educational seminars as Conn-Selmer clinicians, and shared the stage with world-renowned artists including Doc Severinsen, Allen Vizzutti, Jon Lewis, and Susan Slaughter. They were also awarded exclusive performance rights to Rafael Méndez’s trio library, performing this repertoire with ensembles nationwide.
In 2011, SFC Fleig enlisted in the 101st Colorado Army National Guard, serving as trumpet player, supply sergeant, and property book officer, while also earning a second MOS as a photojournalist. She transitioned to Active Duty in 2015, with assignments at Fort Gordon, GA, and Schofield Barracks, HI, before joining The United States Army Field Band logistics team in 2019 at Fort George G. Meade, MD.
Beyond her military and musical career, SFC Fleig is a NASM-certified Personal Trainer, Nutrition Coach, and Master Fitness Trainer, dedicated to helping others improve fitness and lead healthy lifestyles.
