Biography

Sergeant First Class Matthew Gelband hails from Dallas, Texas. He holds a Master’s degree in Performance from The University of Iowa and a Bachelor’s degree in Performance & Music History from The University of Southern Mississippi. Prior to his enlistment, he maintained a sixty-member saxophone studio in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Sgt. 1st Class Gelband had served as a saxophonist with the 1st Cavalry Division Band and with The U.S. Army Japan Band before joining The U.S. Army Field Band in 2021.

This dedicated team of professionals provides comprehensive support across a wide range of essential services, from managing resources and handling information systems to maintaining instruments and supporting logistics. Their expertise allows the musicians of the Army Field Band to focus on their craft and Army training, knowing that all behind-the-scenes operations—from arranging music to ensuring instruments are in top condition and managing the day-to-day supply and transportation needs—are expertly taken care of. The Army Field Band Support Group is integral to the overall mission, providing the foundation for excellence in performance and readiness.
