LIVE PRELIMINARY ROUND

Live Preliminary Round: January 12, 2026 - Fort Meade, MD

 

  1. Download and prepare Preliminary Round Excerpts.
     
  2. No later than December 2, 2025, send a recent PDF resumé with your physical address, phone, and email to usarmyfieldbandauditions@army.mil.
     
  3. The live preliminary round will take place at Fort Meade, MD on January 12, 2025. All travel, lodging, and meals will be at applicant expense.


 

Selected recorded preliminary applicants will be invited to Fort Meade, MD, for an in-person audition and interview on January 13, 2025. Invited applicants from the recorded preliminary round who complete enlistment qualification before August 12, 2025, are eligible for payment of audition travel expenses by the U.S. Army. Military personnel must be eligible for a PCS, submit an Intent to Release memorandum from the unit Commander, and submit a Soldier Talent Profile (STP) or equivalent. Questions regarding the audition may be sent to usarmyfieldbandauditions@army.mil.

Description
  • Perform in the Concert Band of the United States Army Field Band
  • Tour approximately 100 days per year in the U.S. and abroad
  • Perform in various small chamber ensembles
  • Contribute to innovative performances for broadcast audiences, live events, and educational outreach
  • Learn and refine new skills as desired in multimedia production, marketing, music education, and more
Qualifications
  • Professional performance level
  • Proficiency in various musical styles and sight-reading
  • Bachelor of Music degree or higher preferred
  • Ability to meet Army height/weight standards
  • Civilian applicants must be 17-34 years of age or up to 42 with a waiver
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (Green Card Holder)

Concert Band
Concert Band

The Concert Band, the oldest and largest of The U.S. Army Field Band’s five ensembles, has performed for over 100 million people worldwide since its founding in 1946. This elite 65-member group has toured across all 50 states and 25 countries, performing in venues ranging from the Berlin Philharmonie and Carnegie Hall to state fairs and high school gyms. Often joined by the Soldiers’ Chorus, the band presents marches, overtures, popular and patriotic music, and solos. They’ve collaborated with renowned orchestras like the Boston Pops and Detroit Symphony and participated in presidential inaugurations and diplomatic events, embodying American pride and professionalism in every performance.
