Choose ONE of the following options:

OPTION A: RECORDED PRELIMINARY ROUND

Submission deadline: September 1, 2025
 

1. Provide UNEDITED digital audio recordings in MP3 format that were recorded within the past year. Each recorded section must be a separate file and a single take.

   Recordings MUST include the following:
   
   • 2-3 minutes (or exposition) of a standard solo work
   Accompaniment optional; live performance acceptable but not required
   
   • 3-5 orchestral or wind ensemble excerpts of the candidate's choice clearly showing contrasting styles
   Such as lyrical, technical, high and low horn playing, etc. (Live performances with ensembles NOT acceptable)
   
   Recordings MAY include (optional):
   
   • One 2-4 minute selection of a chamber, commercial, combo, improvisatory, or additional performance showcasing a skillset NOT covered in the above sections
   Live performance acceptable but not required; applicants must be immediately featured and easily distinguishable from other instrumentalists
    

2. Name each file as follows: ComposerLastName_TitleOfSelection.mp3
    
3. Upload files to a single folder in a cloud provider of your choice (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.). Create a PUBLICLY VIEWABLE link to the folder and add the link to the body of an email. Do not include videos or identifying information in the recordings or folder.
    
4. Attach a recent resumé in PDF format with your current physical address, phone, and email address to the email containing the link to your folder. Send to: usarmyfieldbandauditions@army.mil.

      5. Travel/lodging/meals paid following enlistment qualification through a U.S. Army recruiter

OPTION B: LIVE PRELIMINARY ROUND

Resumé Due: November 1, 2025
Preliminary Round: December 9, 2025 - Fort Meade, MD

 

1. Solos and Excerpts will be selected from the finals list and will be available online by September 15, 2025
    
2. No later than November 1, 2025, send a recent PDF resumé with your physical address, phone, email, and two references to usarmyfieldbandauditions@army.mil.
    
3. The live preliminary round will take place at Fort Meade, MD on December 9, 2025. All travel, lodging, and meals will be at applicant expense.

Select applicants will be invited to Fort Meade, MD, for an in-person audition and interview on December 10, 2025. Travel expenses will be paid upon meeting the U.S. Army’s aptitude, physical, and behavioral standards. Military personnel must be eligible for a PCS, submit an Intent to Release memorandum from the unit Commander, and submit a Soldier Talent Profile (STP) or equivalent. • Perform in the Concert Band of the United States Army Field Band
• Tour approximately 100 days per year in the U.S. and abroad
• Perform in various small chamber ensembles
• Contribute to innovative performances for broadcast audiences, live events, and educational outreach
• Learn and refine new skills as desired in multimedia production, marketing, music education, and more

• Professional performance level
• Proficiency in various musical styles and sight-reading
• Strong sight-reading skills
• Bachelor of Music degree or higher preferred
• Ability to meet Army height/weight standards
• Civilian applicants must be 17-34 years of age or up to 42 with a waiver
• U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (Green Card Holder)
